Lust of the eyes and lust of flesh and pride of life are not from God or are not godly.

The distinction lies in understanding the inclination of the flesh. Our flesh is nothing and meaningless without God, it’s just fluff, decoration. Anything that the flesh is drawn to desire – lust of flesh, lust of eyes and pride in what we see ourselves as/our ego.. Here we could define ego as the mental construct/form we have of our being which emanates from the flesh and mind \- our beauty, our talents, our possessions. – these are all things that only exist in this realm and thus have no future after our short time here.

Dwelling in these pleasures or refusing to deny ourselves these pleasures (which feel good to the body and our ego – the form we have which emanates from the flesh

To let the spirit of God ‘reign’ in us, we must dwell more in the spirit than in the flesh. And to dwell less in the flesh, we must deny ourselves of the pleasures of the flesh to a great extent. The greatest temptation for Jesus would have been in the pride of life, yet he defeated the world, taking himself in the man form as the least and most humble of all servants; even refusing public acknowledgement from evil spirits.
